On the heels of a sizable investment into OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft announced that it would sunset AltspaceVR to fully concentrate resources on its ambitious extended reality (XR) solution, Mesh for Teams. Currently in closed beta, Mesh for Teams is an enterprise-first platform being designed to address the fast-expanding XR needs of the Fortune 500.
Additional platforms offer organizations the opportunity to leverage the transformative power of social VR today. Platforms such as Engage, Spatial, Virbela, and Meta Workrooms are among those offering customized individual workspaces, 2D/VR/mobile cross-platform functionality, increased event scalability, group collaboration, immersive training programs, and on-prem hybrid solutions.
Due to the extensive range of options available, organizations are encouraged to consider working with XR agencies to identify the platforms best suited for their intended use cases.
